California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil:
Tasting Notes to Expect

California rain was plentiful in 2019, paving the way for improved avocado tree health and bountiful fruit in 2020. Believe it or not, healthy trees = delicious avocados = equally delicious avocado oil!

California’s extra virgin avocado oil made from California’s native Hass avocados has a flavor profile distinct from any other cooking oil. Much like the Hass avocado, this oil variety has a buttery flavor with a hint of fresh grassiness. With California extra virgin avocado oil, you know you are getting a fresh and pure avocado oil that embodies the delicious avocado flavor and nutritional benefits that are so often lacking in many retail-available avocado oils.

There’s a time and a place for every oil, but oftentimes extra virgin avocado oil is a great alternative for more pungent oils like coconut or olive because of its mild flavor. The mellow notes of California extra virgin avocado oil are favorable for more savory dishes, especially when trying to maintain the flavors of a recipe’s staple ingredients.

If you’re unfamiliar with extra virgin avocado oil, we recommend first testing it in small doses and getting accustomed to the flavor. Pouring yourself a spoonful and sipping it slowly will help you to familiarize yourself with its unique flavor profile. Once you’ve acquainted your palate with the oil, use it as a delicious dip for crunchy bread, infuse it with garlic or your favorite herbs, or use it in your favorite salad recipe. The opportunities are endless!
