The Mediterranean Diet

Can you imagine a diet that consists of eating delicious food and never feeling hungry? We couldn’t either! But luckily for all of us, there is a whole region of the world who’s been following this diet for centuries and just so happen to have the longest and healthiest lifespans out of any of us. The Mediterranean Diet comes from (believe it or not) those who reside along the Mediterranean Sea.

The basis of the diet is eating primarily fruits, vegetables, light meats, dairy, and plant-based fats such as nuts and oils. Consuming these foods in place of refined sugars, red meats, and saturated fats naturally reduces the risk for cardiovascular disease and cancer – inevitably leading to a longer lifespan. The best part? No need to count your calories, track your macros, or check your ketones; moderation and variation make this diet a walk in the park.

Olive oil is the traditional “plant-based fat” associated with the Mediterranean diet since olives originated in this region. Avocado oil, however, shares similar nutritional properties with olive oil such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Extra virgin avocado oil (also known as unrefined avocado oil) and refined avocado oil both qualify as Mediterranean friendly! At AvoPacific, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to come up with the Cali-terranean diet with plenty of avocados and it’s oily counterpart! These plant-based fats are crucial for the diet because they’re both satiating and healthy.
